Found Water in Your Home and Don't Know What to Do? Book a Paid Site Inspection Within 24 Hours (Ottawa, Kingston & Eastern Ontario)

You went downstairs and the carpet was wet. Or there is a stain spreading on the ceiling, a musty smell that will not go away, or a puddle beside the furnace that was not there yesterday. You do not know how far it has travelled, whether it is clean water or contaminated, whether it is an insurance claim, or whether it is even worth calling anyone.

Here is the simplest way forward: book a paid site inspection and have a certified technician at your property within 24 hours. Fill in the form at the top of this page, describe what you found, enter your address and contact details, and pay securely online. Your receipt goes to the email you provide, and our dispatch team confirms your inspection window.

If water is actively running or the basement is flooding right now, do not book an inspection — call (855) 3247-FLOOD immediately for 24/7 emergency dispatch.

Why an inspection first, instead of guessing

Water is almost never where you think it is. By the time it shows on a surface, it has usually already travelled through the underpad, the base of the drywall, the sill plate, or the insulation cavity. A phone conversation cannot tell you:

  • How much material is actually wet (moisture meters and thermal imaging can).
  • What water category you are dealing with — clean supply water, grey water from an appliance or sump failure, or Category 3 sewage/groundwater, which changes what can be saved.
  • Whether mould has started. Wet porous materials support growth in 24 to 48 hours.
  • What it will cost, and whether it is worth opening an insurance claim at all.

The inspection converts "I don't know" into a written document: moisture readings, photos, the affected square footage, the recommended scope, and a real cost range.

What the paid 24-hour inspection includes

  1. Certified attendance — an IICRC WRT / PMII Certified Mold Remediator technician, not a salesperson.
  2. Full moisture survey — pin and pinless meters plus thermal imaging across floors, walls, ceilings and cavities.
  3. Category and class determination under IICRC S500-aligned practices.
  4. Mould screening — visual assessment of affected materials and, where relevant, recommendations for independent air/surface sampling.
  5. Photo documentation you can hand to an adjuster.
  6. A written scope with a cost range, including what can be dried in place and what must be removed.
  7. The inspection fee is credited toward the remediation if you proceed with us.

Who this is for

  • Homeowners in Ottawa, Nepean, Barrhaven, Kanata, Stittsville, Orléans and Gatineau who found water and want a definitive answer before calling their insurer.
  • Property owners across Kingston, Napanee, Brockville, Gananoque, Belleville, Trenton, Carleton Place, Port Hope, Bowmanville and Oshawa.
  • Landlords and property managers who need documentation for a tenant complaint about damp or mould.
  • Buyers and sellers who need a moisture assessment before closing — see environmental staging for real estate.

Before the technician arrives

  • Stop the source if you safely can (main water valve, appliance shut-off).
  • Keep power off in any area where water is near outlets, cords or the panel.
  • Photograph everything before you move it.
  • Lift what you can off the wet floor; do not run a shop-vac on suspected sewage water.
  • Do not spray bleach on drywall, framing or carpet backing — it lightens the stain and feeds what is underneath.

About this guide & the team behind it

This article was written and reviewed by the PMII-certified restoration technicians at 24/7 Remedial Services, a Kingston, Ontario property-restoration company with more than two decades of combined field and construction experience across Eastern Ontario. We respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to water, fire, smoke, mould, storm, and impact losses across Kingston, Napanee, Brockville, Gananoque, Picton, Belleville, Smiths Falls, Perth, Prescott, Carleton Place, and the surrounding Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, Leeds & Grenville, Lanark, Hastings, and Prince Edward county townships.

Every guide on this blog is grounded in the same industry standards Canadian insurance carriers expect on a properly documented claim file: industry-standard water damage practices for water damage restoration, industry-standard mould remediation practices for professional mould remediation, and industry-standard fire & smoke restoration practices for fire and smoke restoration. Where the article references a Category 1/2/3 water classification, a Class 1–4 drying environment, a Condition 1/2/3 indoor mould assessment, or a specific itemized line item, that terminology is used deliberately — it's the same vocabulary your adjuster uses and the same vocabulary that holds up in subrogation.

If you are dealing with an active loss as you read this, please do not wait. Most Kingston addresses see one of our restoration crews on-site within 60 minutes of dispatch — including overnight, on weekends, and during severe-weather events. Surrounding Eastern Ontario communities follow as quickly as travel allows. The cost of waiting on mitigation is almost always higher than the cost of acting immediately.

How our crews work

  • 24/7/365 dispatch from a Kingston base
  • Free written itemized insurance scope before any work begins
  • Daily timestamped moisture logs & photo documentation
  • Full insurance claim support with every major Canadian insurer
  • Mitigation through reconstruction under one project lead

What we restore

  • Water damage — burst pipes, floods, sewage backups
  • Fire & smoke — soot removal, deodourization, rebuild
  • Mould — industry-standard mould remediation practices containment & clearance
  • Storm & impact — emergency board-up and tarping
  • Commercial, multi-unit, institutional & residential
